Following on from our previous post on….”is a personal trainer right for you?”……

It doesn’t matter if you are new to the gym, or have been attending the gym for many years, the question at some point may pop up “do i need a personal trainer?”

First of all knowing exactly what you want to achieve out of your fitness programme is essential for it to be successful, regardless of if you have a personal trainer or not.

If you don’t define exactly what you want to achieve, no personal trainer will be able to help. Whilst you need to know what you want to achieve, your personal trainer should be able to help you to refine your goals to make them more achievable. Before you get straight into training, your trainer should sit and talk to you about your health, mindset, diet, any injuries you may have, your goals and requirements before you get started.

The best part of having a personal trainer is that they will make you work, and will push you more than you will push yourself.

Personal trainers will not only show you how to use the machines and educate you about your body. They will make you feel far less self-concious if this is an issue for you.

However, even if you are experienced in the gym, they can help you to mix your training programme up a bit to make sure you are getting the most out of your workouts.

A client/trainer relationship is a very close one. You will be spending a lot of time with them. Therefore, you have to like and trust, and feel comfortable and relaxed with them. You will end up talking about health and training but your life to. They become a bit of a sounding board for other parts of your life.
